Director Tom Volf in Conversation

Talk

March 23, 2022 / 21:00

Pera Film is hosting the screening of the documentary Maria by Callas: In Her Own Words, directed by Tom Volf, dedicated to the great soprano Maria Callas, in collaboration with the Greek Consulate General in Istanbul. The director Tom Volf will be in conversation following the screening of 23rd March at 19.00

Tom Volf discovered Maria Callas by accident, when he stumbled upon a recording of hers that captivated him. This passion pushed him to travel the world for 3 years in search of the true Maria Callas and meet the last survivors of her generation, her close friends, colleagues, and those who truly knew her.

Tom Volf has directed many short films about opera and was in charge of audiovisual communication at the Théâtre du Châtelet for three years. Among the many great figures he has interviewed are Placido Domingo, Sting, and David Cronenberg. He has also directed many corporate films and commercials.

The talk will be in English with simultaneous Turkish translation. Free admissions. Limited space, drop in, no reservations. No reservation, limited seats.

From Cypresses to Turkish Landscapes

From Cypresses to Turkish Landscapes

Among the most interesting themes in the oeuvre of Prassinos are cypresses, trees, and Turkish landscapes. The cypress woods in Üsküdar he saw every time he stepped out on the terrace of their house in İstanbul or the trees in Petits Champs must have been strong images of childhood for Prassinos.
