Flipbook: Imagine, Draw, Make it Move!

Pera Kids
Ages 9-12

  • February 1, 2025 / 13:30

Inspired by the animated video installations in In Search of Vera Molnár, participants design flipbooks, a technique used primarily in early animation, with drawings that continue with slight differences on each page and create the illusion of movement. In the workshop led by illustrator and graphic designer Ferhat Akbaba, participants learn the basic principles of animation. At the end of the process, each participant has their own 66-frame mini-animation story.

Instructor: Ferhat Akbaba
Capacity: 10 people
Duration: 90 minutes
Fee per workshop: 350 TL

The event will take place at the Pera Museum.

At the Order of the Padishah

At the Order of the Padishah

In this piece, Żmurko presents an exotic image of a harem chamber, replete with gleaming fabrics and scattered jewels, as a setting for the statuesquely beautiful body of an odalisque murdered “at the order of the padishah”.

The Battle of Varna

The Battle of Varna

Over the years of 1864 through 1876, Stanisław Chlebowski served Sultan Abdülaziz in Istanbul as his court painter. As it was, Abdülaziz disposed of considerable artistic talents of his own, and he actively involved himself in Chlebowski’s creative process, suggesting ideas for compositions –such as ballistic pieces praising the victories of Turkish arms.

Return from Vienna

Return from Vienna

Józef Brandt harboured a fascination for the history of 17th century Poland, and his favourite themes included ballistic scenes and genre scenes before and after the battle proper –all and sundry marches, returns, supply trains, billets and encampments, patrols, and similar motifs illustrating the drudgery of warfare outside of its culminating moments.
