Stereoscopic Photography

Pera Adult

  • September 9, 2023 / 14:00

The workshop, led by Elçin Acun and Seçkin Tercan, uses the stereoscopic photography technique, which is considered as the application of three dimensions in photography. Inspired by different "ways of seeing" and the impressive use of light, such as Isabel Muñoz's prints on glass using gold leaf, participants shoot and have the opportunity to view their digitally processed photographs in three dimensions. Participants also learn about the historical and aesthetic processes of stereoscopic techniques, adding depth and dimension to photographs.

Note: Participants will be given 3D anaglyph (red/cyan) cardboard glasses to use in the workshop.

Capacity: 10 people
Duration: 120 minutes
Fee per workshop: 250 TL

The event will take place at the Pera Museum (face-to-face).

About Elçin Acun
Born in Izmir in 1982, Elçin Acun is an artist and academician who produces lens-based conceptual works. Acun, who completed her master's degree at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Photography Department, continues and works at the same department for Proficiency in Art. The works of the artist, who makes performative emphases on her own body, are shaped around ideas of body, gender, public and private space, visibility, woman and queer, which also include the questioning of being socially in her own life dynamic. She has held various solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. Living in Istanbul, Acun is one of the founding members of KOLI Art Space, an independent queer art initiative, and a member of PLATFORM by GAPO.

About Seçkin Tercan
Born in Cyprus in 1987, Seçkin Tercan completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Photography. He works as an academician in the same department. He opened his first solo exhibition titled "Part - Whole" in Nicosia in March 2006 and was a researcher and visiting artist at the Alfred Kinsey Institute, Indiana University in 2013. His works focusing on nudes and portraits are shaped by the language of fictional narrative photography. He aims to use the phenomenon of illusion effectively in the images in which he brings the body and form to the center. In his fictional and body-oriented photographs, he questions the concepts of gender, masculinity and space. He applies the stereoscopic photography technique on archaeological spaces and objects and also uses it as a narrative form in his nude photographs. He is a team member in the ongoing excavations of Heraion Teichos Ancient City and Perinthos / Herakleia Ancient City.
