Andy Warhol’s 1965 film Vinyl is the lesser-known adaptation of Anthony Burgess’s novel A Clockwork Orange. Rather than the aggression of Kubrick’s interpretation, which came out in 1971, Warhol’s version is a meditation on pure sensation, infused with raw, homoerotic and borderline pornographic images. These early, sexually fetishistic films fell out of circulation following the attempt made on his life in 1968 by Valerie Salonas, but Vinyl is proof of Warhol’s role as a pioneer in queer cinema.

Based on similar examples by the European painters in various collections, this work is one of the portraits of Mihrimah Sultan, who was depicted rather often in the 16th century.
Félix Ziem is accepted as one of the well-known artists of the romantic landscape painting, and has been followed closely by art lovers and collectors of all periods since. He had a profound influence on generations of artists after him, and was the first artist whose works were acquired by the Louvre while he was still alive.
