Annie Bos (1886-1975) was the biggest star of Dutch film in the 1910s. She played the lead role in most of the films made by Filmfabriek Hollandia during that period.

In Carmen of the North, Annie Bos plays the sensual Carmen, a femme fatale who winds Jozef (Adelqui MIgliar) around her little finger and drives him to despair. This milestone of Dutch cinema can now be seen with a new score by renowned film composer Donald Sosin. Carmen of the North was the most important film to come out of Filmfabriek Hollandia, the biggest film producer in Dutch history. It is a loose adaptation of Prosper Mérimée's novella Carmen – known mainly for the opera French composer Georges Bizet based on it.
