Assemblage: Memories on Canvas

Pera Adult

  • January 19, 2024 / 19:00

In the workshop inspired by the section titled "Memory of Objects" of the exhibition Souvenirs of the Future, objects that have been broken and lost their function over time but contain memories are transformed into works of art. Everyday objects gain a new form by using tile motifs, which are at the center of the exhibition. Participants use old objects as well as materials such as fabric and papier-mâché in the three-dimensional composition they create on canvas.

Note: Participants can bring their objects with a story or broken objects that have lost their function to use in the workshop.

Instructor: Giz’li Atölye Kolektifi
Capacity: 12 people
Duration: 90 minutes
Fee per workshop: 250 TL
Fee per workshop for students: 125 TL (Participants are requested to show their student IDs at the entrance.)

The event will take place at the Pera Museum (face-to-face).

Seaside Leisure

Seaside Leisure

Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure: Nostalgia from Sea Baths to Beaches exhibition brought together photographs, magazines, comics, objects, and books from various private and institutional collections, and told a nostalgic story while also addressing the change and socialization of the norms of how Istanbulites used their free time. Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure was a documentary testament of the radical transformations in the Republic’s lifestyle.

Sea Baths

Sea Baths

It is understood from Evliya Çelebi’s well-known Book of Travels that the history of sea baths goes as far back as the 17th century; their acceptance and popularization take place in mid-19th century as a result of Westernization, among other things.
