Pirosmani

A Legend in "Naïve" Art

Since its establishment, Pera Museum has hosted works by several outstanding artists representing different genres. In 2007, the museum opened its doors to one of the most intriguing creative artists in the world, the Georgian peasant painter Pirosmani. This exhibition of Pirosmani’s naïve paintings took us on a journey through joyous feasts of colour, scent, and forms, through the blossoming meadows, villages, and animals of a neighboring country. Pirosmani, who was not recognized by anyone outside his immediate environment during his lifetime, but was recognized in the 20s and 30s, has been continuing to surprise the world art lovers with his unique sincerity and expressiveness since then. The catalogue prepared in parallel to the exhibition which includes the works of Pirosmani is a good source for those who want to get to know the artist closely.
