Photographs From and Around Göbeklitepe
Isabel Muñoz, an intrepid explorer and observer of nature, aesthetics, and diverse cultures, embarked on a photographic journey through Göbeklitepe, Karahantepe and Sayburç – some of Türkiye’s most significant archeological sites. In this awe-inspiring region that has left an indelible impression on her, Isabel Muñoz delves into profound inquiries about mystery, origin, and eternity. The photographs exhibited in A New Story curated by François Cheval, transcend mere documentation, capturing ethereal and mesmerizing imagery of astonishing ruins and monumental megaliths that exist in a realm between mystery and artistry; they humbly pay homage to these majestic scenes.
The publication accompanying the exhibition includes introductions by the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation and Javier Hergueta, the Ambassador of Spain in Türkiye along with a comprehensive text by curator François Cheval, an essay by Yekhan Pınarlıgil on the relationship between photography and light, as well as the role of memory in how the artist approaches archeological sites, and an interview with the artist conducted by Merve Akar Akgün.
