Based on a macabre event, the exhumation of the corpse of an unknown solider, this film brings together the strands of a complex, fast-moving story played out over 100 years in Lorraine. In it we come upon thwarted destines, brutal deaths, and exile. Through one of two characters straight out of novels, we discover the adventure of the 20th century, seen though the prism of the wars between France and Germany, and the final throes of the French nation before adopting a European identity which transcends it. This film is an investigation into the “scenes of crime”.
This is one of Stanisław Chlebowski’s larger canvasses dealing with themes other than battles; only Ottoman Life at the Sweet Waters now at the Istanbul Military Museum can compare with it in size.
The series of paintings depicting the audience ceremonies of European ambassadors hold a unique place among the works of Jean-Baptiste Vanmour of Valenciennes, who lived in İstanbul from 1699 until his death in 1737.
Inspired by the exhibition Istanbuls Today, Today's Stories series continues with Özge Baykan Calafato's story "Cihangir"! This series gathers short stories written by authors encouraged by the photographs in the exhibition.
