Love, Deutschmarks and Death

Director: Cem Kaya
Germany, 2022, HD, color, 96’

We witness the colorful worlds of gazino singers such as Cavidan Ünal and Hatay Engin, who are rather known mostly by those in Germany, as well as artists such as Köln Bülbül and Yüksel Özkasap whose fame has also conquered those in Turkey. Accompanied by gazinos, pavilions, champagne like water flowing down a hill, huge amounts of money spent, and magnificent arabesque songs, the film describes the subculture and the queer world created 3000 km away with all its colors and radiance. We are happy to get to know Germany's “Sun of Art” Hatay Engin, and unfortunately, we get overwhelmed with pain as we learn that he died right after the shooting of the film, which is as real as a Gülden Karaböcek song: Germany that took my love away, believe me, everything about you is a lie, Germany.

A Night at Pera Museum

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Pera Museum invites artist Benoît Hamet to reinterpret key pieces from its collections, casting a humorous eye over ‘historical’ events, both imagined and factual.

At The Well

At The Well

Tadeusz Ajdukiewicz discovered the Orient in 1877, touring Syria, Egypt, Turkey, and the Crimea with Władysław Branicki. This experience made a profound impression on him, and he was to continuously revisit Eastern themes in his works for the rest of his life.
