Battlefield

Intimate, other, virginal, objectified, ethereal, fragmented: the female body mirrors a battlefield for all women that, in the 1960's and 1970's, claimed its re-appropriation.Battlefield is a tribute to all second-wave feminist movements; through fragments of daily life and social battles, it reconstructs those key moments in our recent history. Sound and images give voice to the archives of Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico, in an imaginary journey between different representations of femininity of that time.
Same/Different/Both/Neither

Brazil, 2020, 18’ 30’’, HDD, Color
English, Portuguese, Spanish with English, Turkish Subtitles
In a period of isolation, far away from each other, two friends reconnect through video-letters, inspired by the poetic gaze of women experimental filmmakers: Marie Menken, Joyce Wieland, Gunvor Nelson and Yvonne Rainer. Fernanda is a Brazilian living in São Paulo, Adriana is a Mexican-Brazilian living in Los Angeles. They share their inspiration while capturing the reality of these times: the pot-banging protests against Bolsonaro, a home moving, the passing of days that feel all the same, gentrification that won’t stop even during a pandemic, the Black Lives Matter protests and the yearning of meeting each other again soon.

Ekstase is a montage of scenes from various European silent films. Based on similar settings and gestures it explores the stereotype of women on the verge of insanity. Reaching its peak in an eruption of hysteria the film displays the women as captives in a continuous cycle of symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
While I’m Still Breathing
Director: Laure Giappiconi
France, 2019, 12’ 25’’, HDD, Black&White
English-French with Turkish-English Subtitles
In a 3 movement narrative, the movie draws the journey through a woman's sexuality, in all its roughness and softnesses. From that little girl inspired by the models painted by Paul Delvaux and Klimt, to her first sensual gestures as a teenager and her experience as a stripper, we gradually see a woman unfold. With great intimacy and sensitivity, she reveals the sensual relationship to her own femininity and to those who she has once shared a special moment with.
Coffee was served with much splendor at the harems of the Ottoman palace and mansions. First, sweets (usually jam) was served on silverware, followed by coffee serving. The coffee jug would be placed in a sitil (brazier), which had three chains on its sides for carrying, had cinders in the middle, and was made of tombac, silver or brass. The sitil had a satin or silk cover embroidered with silver thread, tinsel, sequin or even pearls and diamonds.
