The Requerimiento was a declaration by the Spanish monarchy of Castile's divine right to take possession of the New World's territories and to subjugate, exploit and, if necessary, fight the native inhabitants.This experimental 16mm short film explores the aesthetics of a mythological time and its archetypical creatures and materialities. In particular, following the trajectories of a serpent and a meteorite's fragment, REQUERIMIENTO develops an interwoven narration questioning human and nonhuman alterities in different epochs and cultures.
Spirits and Rocks: an Azorean Myth

On a volcanic island, inhabitants are caught in an unending cycle: the threat of impending eruptions and earthquakes, and the burden of past traumas loom over them. Some draw upon myth and religious beliefs to interpret their precarious situation, while others demonstrate resilience, rebuilding their villages from the volcanic rocks. Mirroring the ethereal atmosphere of the island’s landscapes, the film gradually takes on the appearance of the stories it recounts.

The White Death of the Black Wizard

Memories of the Brazilian slavery past overflow into ethereal landscapes and harrowing noises. Through a visual poetic essay, an intimate and sensory journey reflects on the silencing and invisibility of black people in African diaspora.
Coffee was served with much splendor at the harems of the Ottoman palace and mansions. First, sweets (usually jam) was served on silverware, followed by coffee serving. The coffee jug would be placed in a sitil (brazier), which had three chains on its sides for carrying, had cinders in the middle, and was made of tombac, silver or brass. The sitil had a satin or silk cover embroidered with silver thread, tinsel, sequin or even pearls and diamonds.
